Removing the speed limiter on Bosch MG1 and MEVD17X.
Set the desired maximum speed on BMW/Mini vehicles with ECM Titanium.
Want to remove the maximum speed restriction on BMW and Mini F-Series and G-Series vehicles with a simple, quick operation? You only need two maps in the dedicated ECM Titanium Driver.
On vehicles equipped with Bosch ECUs from the MG1 and MEVD17X families, the speed limiter is managed by numerous parameters and strategies. With this procedure, you can avoid complex operations and directly set the desired speed value, both on models intended for everyday use and on high-performance applications in the BMW M range.
Thanks to ECM Titanium and the dedicated Driver, you can follow a simple, direct procedure: by modifying only two maps, you can set the desired maximum speed and make it the main reference used by the ECU.
How is the modification carried out?
To perform the operation on the ECU, management is handled through two 1×1 maps:
- Speed limiters (Switch)
- Maximum Speed of vehicle
The first lets you change the logic used by the ECU to select the parameters dedicated to speed limitation. The second lets you directly set the desired maximum value.
Practical example: BMW M3 Touring G81
In this case, we focus on the BMW M3 Touring G81, an application for which this type of operation is in high demand due to the vehicle configuration.
The procedure is carried out in two stages.
1. Activating the main map
The “Speed limiters (Switch)” map is a codeword used to configure the ECU.
- The original value is set to 1.
This parameter tells the ECU software which maps must be considered to determine the vehicle’s maximum speed.
- To subsequently set the maximum speed, the value must be changed to 0.
In this way, the ECU enables the “Maximum Speed of vehicle” map and uses it as the main reference for speed limitation.
2. Defining the maximum speed
The “Maximum Speed of vehicle” map is a 1×1 map usually set to 30 km/h. In the original calibration, this value is not used because the map is disabled.
After setting the value of the “Speed limiters (Switch)” map to 0, simply enter in “Maximum Speed of vehicle” the numerical value corresponding to the desired maximum speed.
The ECU will then use the new value as the main limit, making the operation direct, clear and easy to replicate.
What are the benefits of this type of operation?
This procedure allows the maximum speed restriction to be removed directly with ECM Titanium, avoiding changes to the numerous parameters that control the speed limiter in BMW and Mini calibrations. With only two modifications, the workshop can precisely set the requested maximum speed and replicate the operation on compatible F-Series and G-Series applications equipped with Bosch MG1 and MEVD17X ECUs.
