The starting point of this new Case History is an Alfa Romeo Giulia 2.0 Turbo petrol 200hp with Marelli M10JA ECU: an already highly efficient platform, but with significant room for development.
The tuner’s goal is clear: to bring the vehicle to a higher level of performance while maintaining consistency between power delivery, reliability, and real-world usability, also depending on the available fuel.
For Albert, the owner, the difference lies here: not just more power, but complete and consistent management of engine and transmission, capable of turning every intervention into a concrete and usable result in any condition.
The work has been structured across multiple levels, starting from the original setup up to a complete build, including the management of the ZF8HP50 automatic transmission.
The ECU calibration has been developed to ensure consistency between torque request and engine response, optimized torque management, and above all adaptation to the fuel used.
A key aspect of this engine is the fuel octane rating. The OEM 280hp version delivers these values only with 98/100 octane fuel; with the more common 95 octane, output drops to around 250–255hp.
The project has therefore been developed across several configurations, each with a specific objective:
The first configuration brings the Giulia 2.0 TB beyond its original values, maintaining a perfect balance for daily use, taking into account the fuel used.
With a power output of around 255 hp and 400 Nm of torque, the response becomes smoother and more progressive.
A calibration designed to replicate the performance of the higher-output version while ensuring drivability and consistency in every conditions.
For a sharper and more responsive drive, the Dynamic mode represents the best compromise with 95 octane fuel.
Power reaches approximately 290 hp, while torque rises to 450 Nm, delivering stronger acceleration and a more immediate throttle response.
An ideal configuration for advanced daily use.
In this configuration, power reaches approximately 310 hp and torque 470 Nm.
Engine response becomes even more immediate, ideal for a Gran Turismo driving style.
In the most extreme configuration, the Giulia expresses its full potential with 100 octane fuel and dedicated hardware support. With approximately 330 hp and 480 Nm, response is immediate and delivery becomes more aggressive across the entire RPM range. A solution designed for high-performance contexts.
The highest level is achieved with the recalibration of the ZF8HP50 automatic transmission, which completes the engine work.
Power and torque values remain unchanged, but the vehicle behavior changes completely: faster gear shifts, optimized torque management, and greater control during acceleration.
