The Ford PowerShift transmission is among the most advanced six-speed dual-clutch transmissions from the American manufacturer and can improve fuel efficiency by up to 10 per cent compared to a conventional automatic transmission. Installed mainly on small and medium-sized cars with front-wheel drive, it has two modes: with dry clutches or in oil bath, depending on the application.
As with DSG gearboxes, the even ratio is managed by a primary shaft and the odd ratio by a secondary shaft, each with its own clutch pack driven by an ingenious electro-hydraulic system. Once again, the need to reduce overall dimensions, masses and consequently fuel consumption, guarantees a high level of performance across the entire operating range.
With a maximum torque value of 250Nm, it will be necessary to act cautiously on the calibration, especially when modifying the limiters. Thanks to the cloning possibility of this TCU, however, it is possible to intervene on a broad spectrum, and not only in terms of performance.
