ECM Titanium Case History

Mercedes C200 W205 2.1 CDI: strong and linear power delivery across the entire RPM range.

In this intervention, we focused on a Mercedes C200 W205 equipped with the OM651 engine, one of the most widespread engines in the group, also used on C220 and C250 CDI models. The goal was to optimize performance while maintaining reliability and consistency with the original management logic, with a significant operational margin on torque management.

Thanks to ECM Titanium, tuning was carried out with precision, working on engine management parameters to fully deliver the engine’s potential.

Technical Specifications

  • ECU: Delphi CRD3
  • Type: Turbo-diesel engine, inline 4-cylinder
  • Displacement: 2,143 cc
  • Power: 136 hp (100 kW)
  • Torque: 400 Nm

What modifications were made?

The first step involved unlocking torque limitations, raising the maximum value to 500 Nm.

This intervention generated most of the performance increase, considering that the ECU is already calibrated to operate at this level. Map analysis shows that modifications were mainly focused on torque tables, with minimal intervention on fuel management, limited to injection timing.

During testing phases, a critical issue emerged related to torque monitoring: under heavy acceleration, the ECU would intervene, putting the vehicle into protection mode.

To solve the issue, several tests were carried out:

  • disabling monitoring in mg/Stk
  • disabling via dedicated switches in the driver

The first solution showed non-optimal behavior: overly intrusive traction control and less responsive throttle.

The switch-based solution was therefore adopted, allowing:

  • faster throttle response
  • traction control consistent with original logic
  • more balanced overall behavior

Finally, the speed limiter was removed. Combined with the 9-speed 9G-Tronic automatic transmission, this allows the vehicle to exceed 250 km/h.

Results obtained?

  • Power: from 100 kW → ~165 kW
  • Torque: from 400 Nm → ~500 Nm
  • Delivery: full and smooth across all RPM ranges
  • Fuel consumption: reduced under normal driving conditions

The result is a more responsive and performant vehicle in all driving conditions, with stronger pull across the entire operating range and reduced consumption thanks to higher mid-range torque, while maintaining reliability aligned with the original configuration.
